With lunches packed and plenty of enthusiasm, the Wigglers headed off to the Exeter Walking Netball Festival at Exeter University. A huge shout‑out to Captain Kath, who saved the day by organising a mini‑bus — travelling together made the whole adventure even better. After successfully negotiating the car park (and its charges!), we found our spot in the arena and set up camp.
First on court, the Wigglers were raring to go against the Keynsham Roses. It didn’t take long for the team to find their rhythm, and with goals flowing steadily, Bodmin secured a confident first win.
Next up were Taunton, followed closely by Sidmouth, and the winning streak continued. With the venue heating up and temperatures rising, the team welcomed a short break before a friendly match against the Bay Bees. This gave us the chance to try out some different positions, and after a close game, we finished with a well‑earned draw.
After lunch, we faced the Plymouth Warriors — a team we’ve met before and always found challenging. But with strong attacking play and determined defending, the Wigglers claimed yet another win.
With the temperature hitting 29°C, the afternoon was turning into a real test of stamina. Even so, the Wigglers delivered another fantastic performance against the Exeter Mavericks, adding another victory to the tally.
Our “final” game (or so we hoped!) was against Plymouth Pink. Despite feeling the effects of the heat, the Wigglers powered through and secured another win — meaning we had gone unbeaten throughout the tournament so far.
But we weren’t done yet (sadly). Two more matches awaited: the semi‑final and the final. At this point, a cold shower and a lie‑down sounded tempting, but the Wigglers dug deep, won both matches, and secured the tournament win!
Back onto the bus we went, armed with our winnings:
a box of Border biscuits and three bottles of bubbles — the perfect end to a brilliant day.
A massive congratulations to Kath, Amanda, Jenna, Nicky, Lara, Lisa, Sharon & Tania – Go Wiggler’s
