Wigglers at the Marvels Charity Netball Festival

The Wigglers arrived at Penrice for the annual Marvels Charity Netball Festival, quickly securing a prime spot for our HQ right in front of the Tombola. Thankfully, the weather was much cooler, and the Wigglers were in good spirits and ready to play some netball.

Match Highlights

Sole Sisters

Our first match was against the Sole Sisters. Both teams were evenly matched, and although it was a close game, the Wigglers came away with a well‑earned win.

Plymouth Warriors

Next up were the Plymouth Warriors. After our win against them the previous weekend in Exeter, they arrived determined to turn the tables. Height proved challenging for the Wigglers at both ends of the court, and after a few missed scoring opportunities, the Warriors claimed the victory.

Newquay Seagals

We then stepped on court to face the Newquay Seagals, and the game got off to a feisty start. The Seagals were clearly here to win — at all costs. The Wigglers kept their composure, dug deep, and narrowly missed out on a win, but we finished with our heads held high.

The Moochers

The Moochers looked young, strong, and full of energy. By this point, the Wigglers had picked up a couple of injuries, and the fast, furious pace of the game proved tough to match. Despite some lovely passing from the Moochers, the Wigglers struggled to keep up.

St Agnes

One of our favourite walking teams to play is St Agnes, and this match did not disappoint. They brought their usual friendliness and energy, but the Wigglers had found their rhythm and came away with another win.

Marvels (Hosts)

Our final match of the day was against our hosts, the Marvels. It was another high‑energy, fast‑paced game, with the Wigglers wiggling from one end of the court to the other. Even with our mid‑day sugar boost, we didn’t quite have enough of a sugar rush to see off the Marvels this time.

As the tournament came to an end, the Plymouth Warriors were crowned champions once again, securing the title for a consecutive year. The Wigglers finished in a very respectable 4th place, and we’ll be back next year to support this fantastic event.

A huge thank you and congratulations to the Marvels, who raised an incredible £3,500 for Cornwall Hospice Care — an amazing achievement.
