Bodmin Hosts First Walking Netball Tournament in Aid of The Phoebe Hoskins Trust

Bodmin proudly hosted its very first walking netball tournament  — and what better way to mark the occasion than by supporting a wonderful local cause: The Phoebe Hoskins Trust.

From the moment the raffle and tombola were set up, and the cake stand overflowed with delicious treats baked by our talented Wiggler bakers, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, generosity, and community spirit. The event was a celebration of sport, togetherness, and giving back.

Walking netball teams from across the region — including the Aging Angels, Phoebe’s Phoenixes, Lanivet Strollers, Plymouth, Marvels, and Kernow Queens — brought their energy, support, and sportsmanship to the court. From the first centre pass at 10:00am to the final match, our dedicated umpires, scorers, and timekeepers kept the games flowing smoothly. Every match was a testament to teamwork, fun, and community spirit.

After a full morning of exciting matches, the Aging Angels emerged victorious as the tournament champions 🏆 — a well-deserved win for a team that played with heart, skill, and determination. The presentation ceremony wrapped up a fantastic morning of netball, smiles, and fundraising.

The afternoon saw our mixed walking netball teams take to the court, bringing fresh energy and plenty of laughs. Teams included the Bigguns, Old Uns, One and All, Dodgy Passers Utd, and Mixed Signals — each one showcasing unique netball skills. There was plenty of competitiveness, questionable walking and hilarious moments, which kept the crowd entertained.

But it was the Bigguns who stole the show, storming to victory with their star player GS— a towering presence in the goal— proving absolutely unstoppable. Along with their sharp passes, confidence, and infectious enthusiasm they were worthy winners of the mixed tournament.

A special thanks goes to our dedicated scorers, Sharon Mills and Huw Cooksley, our timekeeper Hannah Prideaux, and our fantastic team of umpires: Kate Underwood, Sara Holt, Nikki Cooper, Kath Pescod, Jenna Smith, Vicki Luck, and Jasmine James. Your time, focus, and fairness kept the games running smoothly from start to finish.

We’re also incredibly grateful to Pat, Wendy, Cath, and Em for their tireless support with refreshments, the raffle, and the tombola — your energy and generosity helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

And last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to Angie and Nikki, who organised the entire event. Your hard work behind the scenes made everything possible.

To everyone who played, volunteered, baked, donated, and cheered: thank you. Your support helped us raise an incredible £1,227.25, which will go directly toward providing support for bereaved parents, the creation of memory boxes, and the upkeep of the Forever and Always Garden at Derriford Hospital.

Together, we made a real difference for a cause that means so much to the Bodmin Walking Netball team
