Meet the Team

Here are just some of the wonderful organisers, hosts, and players who help make our netball community so special. Each person brings their own passion, personality, and unique story to the court, contributing to the vibrant energy that defines Bodmin Netball Club. Whether they’re leading warm-ups, hosting Walking Netball sessions, coordinating matches, or simply showing up with a smile and a willingness to play—these individuals help foster an environment built on teamwork, encouragement, and joy.

I'm passionate about all things netball and I've enjoyed many years of both competitive and social play making lifelong friends along the way. I've been an active member of Bodmin Netball Club since 2007 and I'm proud to be a Level 2 Coach and Walking Netball Host. I will happily play in any position on court!

Off court, I'm the Head of Homes and Customers at Cornwall Rural Housing Association and I love spending time with my family and friends and particularly my granddaughter Iris, who I secretly hope will love netball as much as nanny!

I am a huge netball enthusiast with a lifelong passion! I've played netball since school, competing at school, county and club levels. Netball has been a massive part of my life and I am proud to have been a founder of Bodmin Netball Club (1998) and Bodmin Walking Netball Club (2018). Both clubs have thrived in Cornwall racking up numerous league and competition wins.

Through netball, I've made some livelong friends and connection. Currently I am a walking netball host and umpire for our club -and allegedly, I even blow my whistle in my sleep! When I'm not on the court, I'm a freelance hairdresser which I adore. It's a job that lets me spend quality time with my gorgeous grandsons (Mini netball fans of course). In my limited spare time, I enjoy gardening, crafting jewellery, travelling and hanging out with good friends and family - usually over food and drinks

I first heard about the Wigglers through a friend. It had been a long time since I had been on court but I wanted to give it a go and two years later… I’ve never looked back.
It can feel quite daunting starting something new on your own, but the ladies welcomed me and I have felt nothing but warmth and friendship with my new group of friends.
We enjoy training on a Thursday and as the winner of the prestigious 'Navigational Excellence' wooden spoon award for this season, I also expertly guided the team to various matches throughout our beautiful County!
By day and sometimes by night I have the privilege of being a Funeral Director, working in Bodmin for an independent family firm. Life can be incredibly busy, so I try to make the most of my time when with family and friends, especially at the weekends.

The last time I played netball was back in school, and with the court being outdoors, I was never particularly enthusiastic—especially when the Welsh weather served up its usual mix of wind, rain, and hail. So, netball faded into the background of my life.

It was actually Angie’s husband who first mentioned the Bodmin walking netball group to me. I was looking for a fun way to exercise, and this sounded like something worth trying. My netball skills were very basic, and I could barely remember what we’d been taught at school, so it felt like learning a whole new sport. Thankfully, the group is incredibly welcoming and supportive of all abilities. Just as I’d hoped, they made exercise fun!

I spend most of my days at a desk working for a precious metal brokerage company, so having something physical and enjoyable to look forward to is a brilliant way to destress. Walking netball has not only helped me stay active—it’s brought laughter, camaraderie, and a renewed sense of energy into my week. At weekends I love catching up with my children and our beautiful little granddaughter - she certainly keeps me on my toes!

Having not played netball for a long time I was a little unsure about joining Bodmin Walking Netball Club back in 2023. However, my lovely friend and member of the club Lisa, said it was great fun and a good workout, and what's more it was a friendly club run by two lovely coach's Nikki and Angie.

Everything Lisa said was spot on! From that first training session I was welcomed with open arms, and I loved being involved in a team sport again. We have so much fun off the court at social events as we do on the court too. It's a great balance.

Away from the court, family and friends are everything to me. When not working in the family tourist map business with my husband, we are either walking on the beach with our lovely Labrador or doing something fun with our very large family. I'm now a grandma too and I am absolutely loving everything this new role brings!

Netball has been a part of my life since school and having played competitive league and county netball, I cannot image life without it! I relocated to Cornwall in 2003 and joined Bodmin Netball Club not long after. Years later, having played many seasons, followed by the “Vets” league, walking netball has become a life saver for my tired knees!!!! Several other members have followed the same pathway and it’s fantastic that we are all still very much involved with the sport, (netball never leaves you), but the Wigglers consists of the most friendly, sociable and welcoming players and we are all very much a family of netball enthusiasts!!!!

Away from courtside, I am busy working from home and relish time with my family and am currently making the most of foreign travel with my husband as we no longer have to take the children with us!

I joined Bodmin Walking Netball Club about four years ago to spend more time with my mum—and I’m so glad I did! I hadn’t played since school, but I remembered loving it back then, and that feeling came straight back once I got on court.
Don’t be fooled by the word “walking”—this sport is seriously active! It’s full of energy, teamwork, and plenty of laughs. I was lucky enough to win Managers Player for our 'Jigglers' team and also won the “Hold Your Breath” award for scoring the drawing goal in the final few seconds of one of our matches!

Outside of netball, I love to travel, regularly play table tennis with my husband (we’re pretty competitive!), and work as a Legal Cashier for a local solicitors firm. I’d encourage anyone—at any age—to give Walking Netball a go!

I joined Bodmin Walking Netball Club in 2021 after a career move and a little friendly persuasion from my new work colleague, Angie! What started as “just give it a try” turned into weekly laughs, sweaty fun and some seriously competitive walking (yes that’s a thing!). it was a brilliant way for me to stay active, spend quality time with my daughter, (also a member of the club) and meet a fantastic bunch of people. It’s not just about fitness – it’s about friendship, laughter and a great social life. I have loved every minute both on and off the court with all these wonderful ladies.

I would encourage anyone looking for a new hobby, friendship or just to get a bit fitter to join this amazing group, you will be welcomed by everyone and find a new lease of life!

I joined Bodmin Walking Netball Club from the launch back in 2018. I hadn’t played netball since school but joined with a friend as a new hobby and to meet new people. It’s great fun and it’s nice to see old and new faces each week, whilst getting some steps in!! It’s certainly a good workout.
The club is extremely welcoming of everyone and we have some real laughs both on and off the court. It’s very sociable and that is what I enjoy most about coming along each week.
When I’m not playing netball, I dabble in property renovations aswell as horse riding, walking my dogs and spending time with family and friends

When watching my own daughters play netball, I realised how much I missed playing. With the friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere in the Bodmin Netball Club I took the plunge and was warmly welcomed by our dear Nikki. That was over 20 years ago. Having enjoyed playing for many years it was when the old knees and ankles didn't cope with leaping around, and after a few injuries and health problems, I knew, sadly, it was time to hang up my bib.

I hadn't heard of Walking Netball until Nik and Angie set up the Wigglers. That same friendly and warm atmosphere was, and still is, there. Perfect. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones I returned to exercising, while chasing a ball, with a great bunch of ladies, and no jumping.

I am now retired from working for Ofsted in the childcare sector. The stress and isolation of always working from home, meant the social side of the club has always been an important part of my life, and still is. Getting out on Thursday evenings to have fun and laughs on court, and the great social events off court with wonderful, friendly people is a highlight of my week, keeping both my mind and body healthy.

Apart from netball, and spending time with family and friends, I enjoy various crafts, especially making patchwork quilts, baking, gardening, and a bit of dog sitting and walking.
